Conjecture: For n ⩾ 3, there are no finite simple characteristic quotients of the free group Fn. This is not true for n = 2 (W. Y. Chen, A. Lubotzky, P. H. Tiep, to appear in Comment. Math. Helvetici, 2025). This is Kourovka Notebook Problem \(21.82\).
